The country is a member of the EU, the World Trade Organization (WTO) and other international bodies. As a result it follows the European and international trade standards and directives.

The Slovenian Institute for Standardization (SIST) represents the national standards body of the Republic of Slovenia. SIST is responsible for developing, adopting and maintaining Slovenian standards. It also represents the country on the international level by being a member of the ISO, IEC, ITU-T, and European Standardisation Organisations (CEN, CENELEC, ETSI).
The main functions of the SIST are the following:

Conformity Assessment
Conformity Assessment is an obligatory point for the manufacturer in the process of conforming to EU legislation. The purpose of conformity assessment is to ensure consistency of compliance during all stages, from design to production, to facilitate acceptance of the final product. EU product legislation gives manufacturers several options regarding conformity assessment, these vary from self-certification, type examination and production quality control system, to full quality assurance system.
Product requirements
Standards related to products in Slovenia are similar to those in most EU member states. A large number of products require a CE marking, in order to be sold in the European Economic Area. This marking is necessary to prove that your products meet EU safety, health and environmental protection requirements.
Packaging and labeling
Packaging must comply with EU rules on the prevention of health risks to consumers and the protection of the environment.
The information on the labels must be in Slovenian. Labels also must indicate the composition, country of origin, size and care instructions.
Accreditation
The Slovenian Accreditation Board (SA Board) is the body responsible for accreditation. SA has an accreditation system for the following types of CABs: calibration laboratories, testing laboratories, inspection bodies, certification bodies for products, certification bodies for management systems, certification bodies for persons, EMAS verifiers and GHG verifiers.
