Standards organizations
The Institute for Standardization of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BAS) is the national standards body of the country. BAS represents the country's interests in the international and European standards organizations.
The main functions of the Institute for Standardization are the following:
- prepare, adopt, issue and maintain Bosnia and Herzegovina national standards
- keep a register of Bosnia and Herzegovina national standards
- collect, fil and provide standards and other standardization documents
- provide information concerning standardization
- maintain databases on standards and other standardization documents and providing information from the databases
- promote the application of national standards, processes or services through the use of Bosnia and Herzegovina standards
- conduct training in the area of standardization and organizing workshops and seminars.
The Institute for Standardization of Bosnia and Herzegovina is a member of the following international organizations for standardization:
- International Organization for Standardization (ISO)
- International Electro-technical Commission (IEC)
- European Committee for Standardization (CEN)
- European Committee for Electro-technical Standardization (CENELEC)
- European Telecommunications Standards (ETSI)
Conformity assessment
The Institute for Standardization is the main conformity assessment body of Bosnia and Herzegovina. There exist other testing organizations, a list of these institutions can be obtained from BAS.

Product Certification
Product certification is required to ensure that the products meet appropriate testing and conform to relevant regulations.
Accreditation
The Bosnia and Herzegovina Accreditation Institute is the main body for accrediting testing organizations in the country. Before selling a product on the country's market, the manufacturer or its representative prove that products conform with current technical regulations. The assessment procedures are defined by the Law on Technical Requirements for Products and on Conformity Assessment.
Conformity documents and markings issued abroad are recognized, if they are issued in accordance with the international agreements on mutual recognition of which BiH is a signatory.
Labeling requirements
Labels must indicate the following details:
- name of the product
- full address of the importer
- country of origin
- net quantity/weight/volume
- ingredients
- storage rules (transport, use, or maintenance)
- pertinent consumer warnings.
Complex products require a detailed instructions on usage, manufacturer specifications, a list of authorized maintenance persons/businesses, warranty information, warranty period, and other applicable data. The information on the labels must be translated into the languages of Bosnia and Herzegovina and affixed to the product before it sold on the market.
