Description
"Tulsi" means "the incomparable one" and this holy basil is one of the most revered herbs in India. It is highly aromatic and is used for purifying space, more or less as incense or smudging is done in other cultures.
The leaves of Ocimum sanctum are sometimes added to grains to repel insects. They contain essential oils that recent research suggests may also improve pancreatic function and the ability to secrete insulin. Studies involved a small number of persons with type II diabetes and the dosage was 2.5 grams per day on an empty stomach just before meals. The studies showed a reduction in the levels of blood sugar and cholesterol. Tulsi may also be a COX-2 inhibitor as it contains the same pain relieving eugenol as known analgesics.
Tulsi Oil was formulated in response to research showing that pillows were found to have aspergillus mold after 18 months or less of use. Many people have itchy ears or other unpleasant sensations. Tulsi is very calming but this oil may stimulate reactions in the sinuses and throughout the head for 20-30 minutes after use. This is why it is suggested that people do not use the oil simultaneously in both ears.
One drop on cotton wool or gauze. Place in one ear before bedtime. Do the same in other ear the following night.
