U.N. Pushes for Global Fertilizer Price Cut to Avoid 'Future Crisis'
According to a senior U.N. official, the organization is working to lower fertilizer prices to prevent a "future availability crisis". Russian fertilizer exports, including ammonia, are being discussed in order to increase trade, according to a trade official.
According to the United Nations, Russia's war in Ukraine has contributed to a global food crisis and skyrocketing fertilizer prices. Russia and Ukraine are significant grain exporters, and Russia is one of the biggest fertilizer exporters.
Rebeca Grynspan, secretary-general of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), stated, "If we are not able to bring fertilizer prices down, the crisis of affordability that we have today will be a crisis of availability tomorrow, and that is what we are working on right now".
She told reporters in Geneva, "We need to bring fertilizer prices down to avoid a future crisis.
