India Formulates Plan to Promote Exports of Millets
The Central government has developed a comprehensive strategy to promote the exports of Indian millets across the globe from December 2022 onwards.
The Millets export promotion programme has been designed to follow the Indian proposal at the UN General Assembly that has been endorsed by 72 countries, resulting in the world body declaring 2023 as the International Year of Millets (IYoM).
To popularize Indian millets and their value-added products worldwide and make it a people's movement, the government is currently organizing IYoM-2023 at the domestic and international levels.
To promote the exports of Indian millets, the Center intends to facilitate the participation of exporters, farmers and traders in 16 international trade fairs and Buyer Seller Meets (BSMs) to promote the exports of Indian millets.
The government has devised a robust strategy for the promotion of millets, and it will enlist the assistance of Indian missions abroad to brand and promote Indian millets, identify international chefs, and organize B2B meetings and direct tie-ups with potential buyers such as departmental stores, supermarkets, and hypermarkets to attract potential buyers.
