Fruit and Vegetable Exporters Urged to Further Diversify Export Markets

The Asia-Africa Market Department stated that in order to mitigate risk when major export markets experience difficulties, Vietnamese exporters of fruit and vegetables must further improve deep processing and diversify their export markets.

Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports in the first nine months of the year decreased by 11% year over year to around $2.45 billion, with exports to China declining by 35%, according to ăng Phc Nguyên, general secretary of the Vietnam Fruit Vegetable Association.

Local fruit and vegetable exporters had encouraged exports to markets with which the nation has free trade agreements. They had seen a significant increase in exports in these markets, including those that demand high standards like the US, EU, and Japan, in the context of a sharp decline in the country's largest export market, he said.

"I think this is a good sign for domestic agriculture companies in general and fruit and vegetable enterprises in particular to further increase production and product quality to diversify export markets instead of relying too much on a few large countries," Nguyên said.
